On this episode of Marketing News Canada, Darian Kovacs interviews Polly Tracey, Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs for Best Buy Canada.

Polly has experience in many areas of marketing: Fortune 100 communications, public affairs and marketing executive with experience across Europe, Asia and North America. Polly is committed to creating innovative initiatives that assist companies in reaching their corporate goals, impact their share of the market and improve customer satisfaction and experience. From past experience, Polly considers herself a natural leader with strong skills in crisis communications and strategic planning. She is an enthusiastic individual with creativity skills and drive.

Polly is an individual who seeks a challenge, and enjoys working in a fast paced environment for an enormous company. One of her first jobs working for a large company was at Sony. Polly was there right at the time that Sony was starting to make the move to digital. Competitors such as Apple started making music readily available to users by download instead of hard copy albums. She said this change was interesting to see how people reacted was a very useful learning experience for her career.

One of Polly’s favourite brands is Lego. She noted it is such a classic company that has stayed true to its original product. She is also passionate about sustainability. She noted that Lego has made conscious effort to practice sustainability, something most children's brands do not.

When discussing the current pandemic, Polly shared her positive approach towards it. She noted that although we’re in a pandemic, society has learned so much, and is still learning so much from the current global situation. People need to adapt, which means businesses need to as well. She said the pandemic has taught people patience and how to take things day by day. She believes that young marketers are going to have to adapt the most to the current situation as they are one of the segments of society most affected.

Polly is part of The Black North Organization. She is someone who sees the importance of diversity and believes the media is not an accurate representation of the population. The black North Organization focuses on increasing media arts and culture oppouritnes for minority groups of people throughout Canada and the US.

Polly enjoys working for Best buy Canada as it is a company with strong core values and a welcoming corporate culture.
