On this episode of Marketing News Canada, Darian Kovacs interviews Jamie Gargatsouguas, she is the Head of YouTube Brand and Sales Strategy at Google.
Not only does Jamie work for Youtube, she is also a fan of the brand herself. Like most, she enjoys watching her favourite creators. She watches many different types of channels including; cooking, review videos, DIY’s, home decor, and to be specific “Crazy Plant Guy.”
When it comes to advertising on YouTube, the most important step is creating brand awareness. In regards to creators, Jamie hopes that creators choose to use their platform to share content they are passionate about instead of just posting for the monetary gain they hope to obtain.
There are two types of advertisements on YouTube, they are forced advertisements and skippable advertisements. Both these types of advertisements are targeted to the viewers wants and needs and do not necessarily have anything to do with the video being watched. In regards to advertising on YouTube the frequency is an important factor to take under consideration. Viewers often become upset if they are seeing an advertisement too often then feel discouraged to buy a product. On the other hand, the right amount of exposure is what the advertisement needs to ensure it is successful.
“Video Ad Sequencing” is a tool used to tell a story using different types of creative. If someone chooses to watch an advertisement. This is an indication they are interested in what is being communicated. If this is the case, the next advertisement the consumer may see builds off the previous advertisement they saw to tell an enticing story.
Children’s videos are an interesting topic, as YouTube is actually a platform designed for users over the age of thirteen. With this being said advertisers use children’s videos as another opportunity to advertise to adults. Since this platform is designed for an older demographic, statistics show a parent is often near the child when they are watching these videos.
Something Jamie really enjoys about the platform of YouTube is that there is a place for everyone. You can find generic videos that appeal to a large target audience, or there are videos that are super niche and appeal to a smaller audience. With this being said, there is the opportunity for all creators to grow and share their creativity in an abundance of ways.
Jamie is a person who sees opportunities in advertising in YouTube and she sees the possibility for growth from creators. She enjoys YouTube because it allows individuals to share their creativity and passions with everyone in the world. Her skill set and drive make her the ideal employee for YouTube.
