On this episode of Marketing News Canada, Darian Kovacs interviews Mike Sutton, the President and CEO at Zulu Alpha Kilo Inc.
Mike started his career at Digital Shop Henderson Bas where he was responsible for leading the strategic development of large-scale digital programs for Molson Coors, Nike and Coca-Cola. During his time there he assisted the team in winning numerous awards. Mike was selected as one of the 10 young Canadians for Marketing Magazine’s “One To Watch: Marketing’s Next Generation.” Mike built a reputation as a thought leader in Interactive and non-traditional marketing.
During lockdown, Mike tried hard to remain energetic and positive, but this quickly stopped. Some rules that he put in place include no emails after 7 pm or before 8 am. He did this for the benefit of employees' health and wellness. He does whatever he can to keep his employees as stress-free as possible. This rule may seem simple but he has IT members look at data to ensure employees are following this rule.
“Having my first in-person meeting since things have opened was invigorating, I have chills just thinking about it,” says Mike. He enjoys the ability to read the room again, see people's true body language and look into their eyes, not through a computer screen.
Mike believes that inspiration comes from everywhere. He has been feeling more inspired since COVID as he has been spending more time with his family. He has realized the benefits of working from home as he can have more free time.
Now when going to restaurants he has a different perception of his waiter or waitress. He remembers when he was a young server trying to find a job in marketing, and got lucky enough to meet the right person that wanted to sit down with him. Now when being served he has realized chances are, these people are feeling the same way he once felt.
