When he was younger he was passionate about science, but not enough to study it in university. With this being said, he believed journalism to be the perfect fit. He planned to study journalism so he could combine his love for writing with science. When he was younger his dream was to work for National Geographic.
Sean was in University at a time before the internet. During his post-secondary education, the internet began to be introduced into society. He started to learn about building websites. Since this was during a time when a lot of people were uneducated about the internet he teamed up with a few guys, the youngest being 16, and they learnt how to build websites. They were able to pick up clients such as Samuel L. Jackson.
From building up his portfolio in Saskatchewan where he attended university, he was offered a job at a prestigious agency in Chicago. “An interesting fact is when I was living in Chicago, Barack Obama was my neighbour,” says Sean.
When it comes to marketing, it is important to know how to adapt content so it is useful on every platform. Whether it be Instagram, Facebook or radio, the same content can be used on all platforms with some modifications. Sean stated that when recording content for radio, he always brings his camera along to capture images that can be used for social media.
The advice Sean gave was to consume a lot of stories and write a lot of stories. Great storytellers do not come without practice and they do not come without reading other peoples work first. Telling great brand stories is the key to effective marketing, says Sean.
Sean is experienced and well-travelled. His diverse skill set has allowed him to further his career and be the perfect person to create Denman Digital.
