On this episode of Marketing News Canada, Ted Lau interviews Chris Hadfield, Chris is a multi-talented marketing professional.

Chris is an experienced agency owner, podcaster, and speaker as well as he is a space and science enthusiast. Some people may refer to Chris as the most famous astronaut since Neil Armstrong, or even this generation's Neil Armstrong. He is the first Canadian commander of the international space station. Hadfield is also the best-selling author and musician and the host of two television series.

Before the Pandemic, Chris was touring with David Bowie's band. During the Pandemic, he wrote a new book which has kept him busy. When it comes to speaking, Chris was used to travelling a lot to do so. He now has realized the convenience of speaking and giving lectures from home over Zoom or Skype. He believes that he can now reach bigger audiences in less amounts of time.

Although retired, Chris enjoys staying busy and sharing his knowledge. He stated that “everyone is doing something and I enjoy staying mentally challenged.” He sees the value in sharing his knowledge because there are so many people in history he wishes he had the opportunity to talk to.

Although gone to space three times, Chris states that it takes a lifetime of preparation. It is the reason he still exercises regularly and eats well, and it is also the reason he learnt to speak Russian. He states that all the hard work was worth it and even if he never even had the opportunity to go to space, he would have been content with himself because he knows he's done the most he could have with his time.

“Sometimes people win the lottery and get lucky, but for the most part you need tenacity and patience for your own dreams,” states Chris. A piece of advice he gave was not to celebrate your accomplishments too hard. The reason he says this is because it leads to disappointment. He said some Olympic athletes end up depressed because they reached their biggest life goal and now it feels like there is nothing after that. So with that being said, do not celebrate too hard, and set new goals so there is always something to look forward to.

Chris is motivated to learn more and he is always wanting to do more. He sees the value in life of expanding your knowledge base and sharing your learnings with others. His drive and ambition make him an exciting podcast guest and a captivating speaker. The advice he shares is relevant for all ages.
