On this episode of Marketing News Canada, Darian Kovacs interviews Chris Do, the Founder and CEO of The Futur.
Chris has run an Emmy award-winning motion design/brand consultancy for over 23 years. He now teaches the world how to value themselves and communicate their value to others through open platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. He often speaks at events and conducts workshops on pricing, typography, mindset, marketing, and content creation.
The Futur is an education platform where creative professionals learn business principles. From freelancers to creative entrepreneurs, there are tools and courses designed to meet everyone's needs. The brand’s mission is to empower creative entrepreneurs to establish successful, sustainable, and fulfilling businesses. Chris has the mindset that his business is “not about teaching people how to make money, it is about teaching them how to make a living, and teaching them about life.”
Chris was born in Vietnam and when he was younger as a refugee his family moved to America. His family is Catholic and as a member of the Catholic church, has appreciated the open heart of the church that helped his family. The church assisted them when making ends meet was hard. Chris believes that if it wasn't for the people that helped him along the way, he would not be where he is today.
He started his business due to the belief that when someone helps you and lifts you up, you send the elevator back down, meaning “pay it forward.” The Futur was designed to be a company that helps people make a living doing what they love.
The two biggest areas of revenue are, the typography course and the coaching community. A new concept that The Futur started offering was “Office Hours,” these were designed to mimic the typical office hours that universities offer. Chris believes that “if you really want to grow and build a community, focus less on the transaction aspect of things and more on the transformative.”
The Advice Chris gave at the end of the show was to follow your heart and instincts. If it was not for the people around him trusting him in his pursuit to start his company, he would not be where he is today. Invest in yourself and by that he means invest in your knowledge. You can spend hundreds of thousands of dollars at fancy name institutions, or you can make a small investment in some online courses that contain more valuable information, the choice is yours.
Chris is dedicated to learning and sharing his teachings, which is what inspired him to found his company, The Futur.
