On this episode of Marketing News Canada, Daryl Louie interviews Charlie Grinnell, the CEO of RightMetric.

Charlie has always had a passion for digital marketing. Following this passion has led him to many opportunities including Invoke. Invoke is the digital agency responsible for creating Hootsuite. After living in Toronto, Charlie then moved to Europe to lead Red Bull’s global social media strategy for all sports initiatives at their international headquarters. Most recently he was the head of social media at Aritzia, leading all social media activity for the brand including research and strategy, through development, execution, and analysis.

RightMetric allows for customers’ lives to be more calm and confident. Using a straightforward and truthful approach to sharing insights that lead to confident decisions. RightMetric is a searchable library of data-backed case studies for marketers that gives them quick answers to hard questions and informs faster and more reliable strategic decision-making.

Charlie attended the University of British Columbia on a football scholarship to study Economics. He intended to finish his degree and attend law school, but was in a car accident during his first year that led him to drop out of University. During this time off, Charlie discovered his passion for marketing.

Charlie says that “data is oil and insight is gasoline.” By this, he means that there are a lot of companies that sell data that they have collected, but the trick is knowing what to do with the data. At RightMetric, they sell useful information and insights that businesses use to grow.

When it comes to trends in marketing, Charlie has noticed the rise of TikTok. Last year Charlie believed that TikTok would be taken over by Facebook and the platform would not gain significant popularity, however, he now states that he was wrong in this prediction.

The best marketing is creative,” says Charlie. As much as he believes that everyone thinks he only cares about data, he states that is not true. He is passionate about the creative side as well. He enjoys producing videos and other visual content to captivate his audience. He believes marketing is about the balance between art and science.

When asked a series of Rapid Fire questions, Charlie answered as followed:

  1. Marketing book you’d recommend?
    Hit Makers

  2. Podcast you’d recommend?

Charlie has experience working around the world and is passionate about marketing, specifically digital. His passion and experience make him a confident CEO for RightMetric.
