On this episode of Marketing News Canada, Darian Kovacs interviews John Jantsch, the Founder and President of Duct Tape Marketing.
John seeks to help small and local business owners. By providing professional consulting services, he streamlines their marketing approach. In the long run this increases revenue by implementing a practical and simple system called Duct Tape Marketing. John is an award winning social media publisher and bestselling author. Duct Tape Marketing is a marketing consulting, publishing and training firm with services delivered worldwide.
“Podcasting is my way of holding myself accountable for talking to people I want to talk to,” says John. He states that he has had the opportunity to talk to new and exciting people that he would otherwise not have had the chance to interview someone like Seth Godin.
Podcasting has come a long way since he first started recording, explains John. When he first began his show he would record phone calls between him and his interviewee then upload them to his computer and edit using GarageBand.
The Duct Tape Marketing Podcast stays away from the cost per click model. John believes that partnerships are more valuable than advertising as he is keeping in mind what the audience wants. He partners with people and brands he hopes wants to communicate with his audience as much as he does.
John believes that part of being an entrepreneur is letting go of your old ways and being willing to try new things outside of your comfort zone. The mind, body, soul, and spirit connection is something that John feels is very significant in his life and his daily routine. When writing he always keeps these things in mind and attributes his success to them.
The name “Duct Tape Marketing” originates from John working with small businesses. When it comes to their marketing strategies they need to be cheap, effective and affordable, just as Duct Tape is. “Sometimes it's not always pretty, but it sure works,” says John.
