On this episode of Marketing News Canada, Darian Kovacs interviews Allan Kambeitz from Best Buy Canada.

Allan is the Category Officer for Computing and Digital Imaging at Best Buy Canada. Allan is a man of many talents. Some of his skills include, purchasing, negotiation, marketing, vendor management, forecasting, inventory management, transition planning/management, people development, and team leadership.

As a gaming enthusiast, Allan is very knowledgeable about the gaming industry. One of the differences between PC gaming and console gaming is where users can buy games. He prefers PC gaming as he states it is more customizable. On a PC it is much easier to change the settings on a game compared to playing on a console. Some games are easier than others to customize, the example Allan spoke about was Grand Theft Auto Five.

The main reason why some gamers may desire to game on a PC over a console is because of the frame rate speed. Developers tend to develop lower frame rate games on consoles because they want to ensure that the machine is capable of delivering the content. In general, computers are built to handle more than consoles.

When discussing trends in gaming and how a game becomes popular, Allan stated that there are various reasons why a game's sales may increase. He believes that often it has to do with “who” is playing the game. Often gaming companies will pay to have celebrities endorse their game publicly to drive traffic. An example of this was when a gaming company paid Snoop Dogg to play their game with other players around the world through live streaming services.

Allan believes that everyone is a content creator. Anyone who is working from home is creating content with the intent of it being shared. He said this has made a connection between generations as people are beginning to have more in common regardless of their age. Creating content is now becoming more accessible than ever with access to so many professional tools from the comfort of your own home, such as social media and cellular devices.

A trend Best Buy has seen since the start of the pandemic is the increase in people upgrading their technology. People are making a stronger effort to have higher quality Zoom calls. This means the purchase of high end lighting or even having external cameras asides from webcams to ensure the best quality.

Allan is not only a gaming enthusiast but he is passionate about all things technology. He sees the advantages it can give people and believes it can improve users' everyday lives. His love for computers and gaming makes him an ideal employee to fill the position as the Category Officer for Computing and Digital Imaging at Best Buy Canada.
