Facebook, Shopify and Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business: Launching #WeThrive: Indigenous Buying GuidE

The Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB), EntrepreNorth, Pow Wow Pitch and Raven Indigenous Capital Partners have come together with Facebook Canada and Shopify to spotlight and celebrate Indigenous-owned businesses through a new campaign titled, #WeThrive.

Everything you need to know:

  • What is #WeThrive? Short for “#WeThrive: Indigenous Buying Guide”, #WeThrive is a nation-wide, shoppable ad campaign on Facebook and Instagram featuring products from Indigenous-owned businesses. Indigenous-owned businesses with a Shopify e-commerce store are invited to submit their products to be featured for three weeks at no cost.

  • How can Indigenous entrepreneurs apply? Participating businesses can submit up to five products for inclusion, and there is no limit to the number of businesses that can participate. Businesses can apply to participate in the #WeThrive Shoppable Buying Guide ad campaign by visiting fb.com/wethrivecanada.

  • Why is this important? Indigenous entrepreneurs face unique challenges, which have been elevated throughout the pandemic. They report needing greater access to capital, qualified Indigenous employees, skills training, investment, technical and business know-how, and mentoring. According to a recent report from Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business, 73 percent of Indigenous-owned businesses have reported a negative impact on their business from the pandemic, with 37 percent facing temporary closures.

  • How can Canadians show support? Canadians can share their support by tagging their favourite Indigenous-owned businesses to encourage them to participate, buying from the businesses featured in the campaign, and by sharing the news on their social channels using the hashtag #WeThrive.

Indigenous-owned businesses are an important part of the fabric of their communities. They contribute not only financially, but also socially, to the communities in which they operate. Their success can lead to a more sustainable, thriving, and better Canada.
