Chris Wagner speaks to Internal Communications with Bananatag
Chris shares the importance of internal communications. His company, Bananatag, allows a user who sends an email to know how the recipient interacts with that email: when/if they open it, what they click on, etc. Bananatag concentrates on internal communications to help companies know exactly how their employees are engaging with the emails. Using Bananatag helps companies to create content that will get more interaction. This helps companies to get their employees aligned with the mission and plans but is also used for smaller detailed communications.
Chris talks about how he is always looking to create engaging content and as such he follows the principle of trying to be on trend but in a way that addresses what will be true for a long time (10 years plus). From that they came up with the idea of aiming to be ‘H to H’ (Human to Human) in their attempt to make connections between his employees and his customers, because those human connections create a deeper bond, extending the lifetime value of the customer, but even works in growing their business as people who they are connected with move to different jobs but continue their human connection to Bananatag’s staff.
On his final note, Chris advises anyone looking to improve their internal communication to aim to engage their audience more conversationally and emotionally. He says that one of the biggest mistakes organizations make when speaking to their employees is they tend to give information and direction. Instead he says they should endeavour to guide and connect in a way that creates a bond with it’s employees so they will internalize and adopt the mission and values of the organization.
