SNMA Member of the Month: Afton Brazzoni

We’re kicking off our SNMA Member of the Month series with someone who truly represents what this community is all about: thoughtful, independent, and deeply invested in helping others grow. Meet Afton Brazzoni, the founder of Scribe National and a leading voice in B2B content strategy.

Based in Cochrane, Alberta (just outside Calgary) Afton has spent more than a decade helping brands turn complex ideas into clear, meaningful content. She’s also a returning speaker at SocialNext events, a contributor to the SNMA community, and one of the many marketing professionals building their own path outside the traditional agency world.

We caught up with Afton to talk about her journey from newsroom to entrepreneur, how she approaches content strategy, and what she’s learned along the way.

Let’s start with your background. Who are you and what do you do?

I’m a brand and content strategist who helps B2B companies tell their stories. I started out in journalism and have been working in storytelling in one form or another since 2009. I launched my content agency, Scribe National, in 2019, and earlier this year I started working toward my coaching certification.

When I’m not working, I’m hiking with my two French bulldogs (yes, they can hike!), painting, or learning Spanish.

What does Scribe National specialize in?

We’re a content marketing agency focused on long-form writing for B2B tech companies. That includes customer stories, articles, and research-backed content that helps build trust and support sales. Over the past six years, we’ve worked with close to 100 companies — including a few tech unicorns — across North America and beyond.

What’s your marketing superpower?

Turning complex or technical ideas into clear, confident messaging that actually sounds like the brand behind it. I love hearing clients say, “That’s exactly what I’ve been trying to put into words.”

From Journalism to B2B Strategy

How did you first get into marketing?

I started my career as a reporter and editor. That curiosity and love for storytelling naturally led me into communications, and eventually into marketing. What I do now still feels rooted in journalism — it’s about asking good questions, listening carefully, and then shaping what I’ve heard into something powerful and useful.

What’s a milestone you’re especially proud of?

Recently, a client told me the case studies we created helped her land three multi-year consulting projects. Knowing that our work had a real business impact — and helped her move her mission forward — means a lot to me.

What do you love about marketing right now?

The people. I love the relationships we’ve built with our clients and collaborators, and the trust that comes with doing great work over time. That human connection is what keeps me going.

On Joining SocialNext & the SNMA Community

What first brought you into the SNMA community?

I applied to speak at SocialWest in 2023 and was thrilled to be accepted. I knew it would be a great conference, but I didn’t expect to find such a welcoming, engaged community. That was the real surprise — and what’s kept me coming back.

How have you stayed involved?

After speaking at SocialWest in 2023, I came back as an attendee in 2024. I also spoke at the SocialNext Virtual Summit earlier this year, and I like to jump into community discussions when I can. It’s such a good way to connect between events.

What kind of impact has SNMA had on you?

It’s helped me feel more connected to others in the industry — especially those of us building and growing on our own. There’s something energizing about seeing how other marketers are solving problems, learning from each other, and cheering each other on.

What’s Next?

I’m excited to keep growing Scribe National and working with new clients — especially in fintech and other evolving spaces. I’m also finishing my coaching certification this fall, and starting to work more closely with freelancers and business owners who want to build businesses that actually support the lives they want.

This fall, I’ll also be hosting a series of free panel discussions on marketing and business topics, featuring some amazing guest speakers. They’re always full of real, honest insights — and the best way to hear about them is through my email list or LinkedIn.
