On this episode of Marketing News Canada, Shelley McArthur Everett interviews Tanis Parenteau, actress and producer.

Shelley and Tanis discuss the importance of representation in the film industry, such as Indigenous people playing indigenous roles. These roles can break through stereotypical characteristics and fulfill her passion for the promotion of Indigenous representation. Tanis navigated her career towards production to exercise her natural talent for storytelling. To grow her producer skills, Tanis looked for mentorship, grants and funding opportunites. While facing challenges with representation, Indigenous people can also be exploited and taken advantage of. Tanis tells us that this is because Indigenous people have access to certain funding and support that non-indigenous people normally wouldn’t have access to.
