Elon Musk shares new ‘X’ logo

Elon Musk and Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino shared a new logo for the social media platform on Monday.

The logo is what you might imagine when you hear the letter “X.”

An "X."

For Musk, the logo signifies a change that should have happened earlier.

The SpaceX Founder replied “Sorry it took so long,” to a tweet that said, “...so they’re really getting rid of the Twitter branding and logo.”

As for Yaccarino who like Musk posted a picture of the logo projected on the company’s San Francisco offices, her excitement appears to be matched.

“X is here! Let’s do this,” she tweeted.

As of today, the original Twitter logo is still visible across different parts of the platform. But the “X” logo is in both Musk’s and Yaccarino’s handles and showcased in Yaccarino’s header and Musk’s profile photo.

The rebranding has been an interactive process with Musk commonly involving Twitter users to gauge thoughts and opinions.

Musk has responded to numerous tweets asking what “tweets” would now be called. He responded “x’s.”

He said that users of the platform will not be called anything in response to a user tweeting they liked the sound of “x’ers.”

And he also asked his followers their feelings on changing the site from blue to black via a Twitter poll.

Yaccarino took to Twitter on Sunday to share one of the more lengthy explanations about the rebranding.

“It’s an exceptionally rare thing - in life or in business - that you get a second chance to make another big impression. Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate,” she said.

“Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.”

As for the overall consensus of the current global town square?

It’s safe to say that users are divided.

#GoodbyeTwitter began trending on the platform while some users applauded the new logo and others criticized it.
